About the artist:
Marian Louise Boyd Nielsen was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio, in 1921. She studied music at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois, and with private teachers in New York. She is a self-taught painter who became interested in arts and painting when she moved to Mexico City in 1960. She first became involved in painting on wood and papier mache surfaces. In 1964, she commenced to easel painting and had her first one-woman show at the Antonio Suza Gallery in Mexico City in 1966.
Marian was a representational painter, in the folkloric style. She worked in oil, on prepared panels and with oil wash on paper. She was one of the original members of the famous Bazar Sabado.
She was married to an artist who also painted in folk art style, Ken Nielsen. We have his piece "Musical Capers" also listed.
