Oglala Princess 18 - 2W

Exquisite detail and fine craftsmanship.

This Navaho Princess has stunning, piercing orange/brown eyes with delicate pink lips. Long eyelashes when her eyes are closed.

Her long, gorgeous black hair is tied in pigtails bounded by red and yellow beading with three leather bands in green, white and brown. The pigtails are adorned with three long thin feathers. There are three other loose feathers tucked away in her hair. The feathers are magnificent. She wears a 1" white leather headband with a beaded flower and two beaded arrows.

Around her neck is a stunning turquoise necklace with two silver amulet pendants.

Her neckline is covered in a 1" fringed collar. The entire native costume is done in white leather with beaded embroidery through out the blouse and skirt. The hand sewn beading is just amazing. The beads are in red, turquoise and black. On the blouse there are four flowers and single black beads. her belt has the same pattern as her head band. The arrow and the flower pattern continues down her sleeves.

Her skirt has a centered Thunderbird with two star pattern designs on either side. Towards the hemline the arrow and flower pattern are repeated. The base of her full skirt is fringed at the hem.

She wears a dainty pair of flowered panties.

She has 2" white leather leggings on over her beautifully beaded embroidered moccasins.

On her left wrist is a mustard colored leather drum with a navy rim. On both sides of the drum, there is a cut out figure in deep red. The drum dangles from her hand. Please see the photos to show where the drum needs to be glued. I have chose not to glue it. Sold as is.

On her right wrist is a double sided amulet with beaded embroidery on both sides. One side is red with an arrow and flower. The opposite side is white with the same pattern. It is fringed at the bottom.

The papoose is made of soft white leather with hand cut fringe at the base. The flat portion of the papoose is made of an oval piece of wood. 5 1/2" x 2 1/2". It has two strips of deep red leather and a turquoise leather thunderbird for decoration. The baby in the papoose is adorable. He or she is wearing a white leather head band and has a tiny feather head dress poking out of the back of their head.

Her original hang tag is sewn on the reverse side of her skirt. It is in a diamond shape.

I could go on and on with this fabulous piece of handmade, fine art doll.

This doll was purchased in 1973 in Oscoda, Michigan at the Red Barn.

The original heart shaped Carlson Doll stand is included.
