Vintage Salamis Island Doll Greek Regional Costume Doll 14" Full Beaded Costume Coin Necklace Lace Headpiece
This Made in Greece costume doll has been in my collection for many years.
14" Tall.
Very unusual costume doll from the Island of Salamis.
Handmade doll of a greek woman, dressed in traditional, folk costume from Salamis, the largest Greek island in the Saronic Gulf, about 2 km off-coast from Piraeus and about 16 km west of central Athens.
Her costume is very detailed and very beautiful. The fabric and beading is fabulous. Her face is hand painted.
She wears a wreath and a lace vail for her headpiece. Her necklace is a choker of silver tone beads.
Her skirts are stunning. Solid blue velvet with beading, sequins and lace. The second skirt is ending in lace with a lovely ring of black and gold trim with a lace hem. There is a third muslin petticoat. Her sleeves are plump in purple fabric and lace with gold trim.
This doll is just perfect.
She is probably one of a kind. She is truly a piece of art.
