Vtg 1970's Jacques Chevignard Howard S. Meighan P. Goiffon Confrerie des Chevalier du Tastevin Chartreuse Letters
This is a one of a kind collection of letters to my father, Dr. Martin L. Charles, in reference to his interest in becoming a member of the Confrerie des Chevalier du Tastevin. My parents collected fine wine and had an extensive vintage as well as modern wine collection.
I am presenting a sequential set of three letters from the late 1970's including a copy of "Evergreen" published and edited by "Les Amis se la Chartreuse.
My very prolific father wrote to Jacques Chevignard on January 31, 1978. In the letter my father wrote was his interest in becoming a Chevalier du Tastevin. Monsieur Chevignard wrote back le 3 mars 1978 on official Confrerie des Chevalier du Tastevin stationery referring my father to Howard S. Meighan of the Confrerie Des Chevaliers Du Tastevin Commanderie D' Amerique also on official stationery. Mr. Meighan wrote back to my father on March 20, 1978. Both letters were signed.
On to the last letter that refers to the Chevilier des Tastevin is from P. Goiffon who was the Le President Directeur General of CHARTREUSE dated January 24, 1978. He appreciated my father's interest in the their publication of "Evergreen". He too offered him a connection to an American representative, Tex Bomb, of the Chevalier des Tastevin. Also on official stationery and signed.
With that letter was included the Spring 1978 issue of "Evergreen". "In this issue of Evergreen we have pleasure in presenting you with a map of the Dauphine, in which region is situated Chartreuse".
It is a two sided poster. One side is an extensive map of DAUPHINE, France. It shows the Coat of Arms of Chartreuse and the Coat of Arms of Dauphine. Map designed and drawn by Jill Roxby.
On the reverse side are CHARTREUSE Cocktails "A few old favourites . . . and a few new ones for you to try". The magazine is just charming. The p4oster is suitable for framing.
I'm hoping that a member of the Chevalier des Tastevin, perhaps Kevin O'Leary (Mr. Wonderful) finds these letters and magazine as unique and historical as our family does.
