Antique 1908 Postcard 1 Cent Green Franklin Stamp "House In Bartram's Garden Near Derby PA Built 1731"
This postcard was mailed to my Grandmother before she was married in 1916.
A lovely note to my Grandmother who must have been thrilled to receive it. Signed by the gentleman who sent it. 7/14/08 Dear Lena, Hope you are a real good girl as usual. Sincerely, L. Oscar Horwarth.
I have tried to research this gentleman to no avail.
Hand written in blue ink and appears to be written with a fountain pen.
Bartram's Garden:
Bartram's Garden is a 50-acre public garden and National Historic Landmark in Southwest Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, situated on Lenape territory on the banks of the Tidal Schuylkill River. It is a venue for art, an access to the tidal river and wetlands, an outdoor classroom, and a living laboratory. Founded in 1728 by botanist John Bartram (1699–1777), it is the oldest surviving botanical garden in North America. Bartram's Garden attempts to hold the colonial legacy of the land with a commitment to learn and share the whole truth about of the plants of Southwest Philadelphia and the people who grow them.
The Franklin stamp does not look like it was canceled by written in pencil next to the stamp is "15".
