“Ngai Iku Original JAPANESE OBAN WOODBLOCK PRINT Signed Black Cat and White Cat” was purchased in Kyoto in 1967.
The artist sign is on the bottom left.
This piece is actually a woodblock print by Japanese artist 永井郁 - Nagai Iku and title of your print is 貓 - Cats. .
Publisher seal is on the right bottom margin.
Publisher seal "京都版畫院_品川版_摺志乃富" - Kyoto Plate/Block Printing Academy, Shinagawa Plate/block edition, (by) Shinotomi - print artist that created the print.
Iku Nagai used multiple techniques to produce her art: painting in mineral pigments she ground herself, gold and silver leaf, water color, etching, drawing, monotype, woodblock, monoprint, and chine colle. Although most of the artworks are prints, you will note that nearly all are unique; very few were created in editions. Prelude to Vernation
We are the original owners. This piece has been under glass until this past week. We consider it to be in excellent condition.
