Vtg 1971 Hand Woven Guatemala Textile Art Hung On Sugar Cane 3 Women Multi Colored
This piece is from our trip to Guatemala in 1971.
It is a gorgeous handmade, hand woven piece of textile art. The thick thread used in this beautiful piece is hand dyed.
Very unique construction. There are three bars that we believe are sugar cane or carved wood. The top and bottom bar are 19" long x 1" thick. The ends are carved out. The tapestry portion of the piece is attached by rows of blue thread wrapped around the sugar cane.
The top bar is attached by rows of blue thread as well. There is 5" of blue and red thread.
Next there is a slender 1/2" wide bar with loose orange thread followed bu 3" of blue thread again. The actual tapestry is 18 1/2" x 15".
The piece is brilliant with amazing colors. There is a woven zig zag pattern at the top and the bottom of the piece. Three charming ladies in full Guatemala dress are balanacing a basket of fruit on their head.
Truly a piece of fine folk, textile art.
