This is an exquisite , one of a kind, vintage two piece outfit.
Deep burgundy, in excellent condition with a tremendous amount of hand painted detail.
It is truly a piece of art worthy of museum quality.
Each piece has a 3 1/2" x 2" label signed and stamped CHAR 10.
The Jacket:
Suede and Leather
23" Length
The lapels are hand painted in colorful birds and flowers.
The lapels are 13" in length and 6" at widest point.
On the reverse side of the lapel is flat leather.
The trim on the entire jacket is hand stitched, as well as the two button holes along with the handmade buttons.
The bust is 16 1/2".
The jacket is fully lined in black fabric that has its own motif.
Lifting the lining on the inside of the leather, there is a faint hand painted "bunny rabbit".
There is a 1" hem around the base of the jacket.
The sleeves are 21" in length in suede and leather.
At the wrist of the sleeve there is a 4" hand painted cuff slit with a 4" opening.
The jacket is peplum style 5 1/4" towards the waist.
There is stitching down the back of the sleeves.
The yolk of the back and down the middle of the back there is a 4" leather stitched fold 11" in length.
The Skirt:
38" Length
The skirt measures full, flat opening is 68" at the widest point.
The waist is wrapped around with a brass buckle closure.
There are two sets of 31" fine, thin, leather ties, adding style to the unique closure.
The when expanded to the last punch on the helt to 15" to the samllest adjusts down to 13".
The hand tooled waistband is 2 1/2".
The belt is 1 1/2" wide x 5" in length with 5 punch holes.
The skirt has a wide 4" continuous 64" hand painting of incredible, colorful birds and flowers.
There is hand stitiching 2 1/4" suede sewn above and below the art work reversed with leather and suede.

About the artist:
CHAR is a leather goods and western style clothing company whose designer is Charlotte Blankenship de Vasquez. Char was stated as a handbag company in Mexico in the late 1960's. In 1982 Char joined with her sister, Sherry Stein, to form Char and Sher. This company made western and southwest style clothing and leather goods. In the early 1990's, Stein left the company which has continued to operate as Char.
I bought this remarkable piece while in Tlaquepaque, Mexico in 1973. I have never worn it. It is truly stunning.
