Vtg Handmade Studio Art Fine Pottery Set Of 6 Bowls Glazed Blue Brown Gray Signed By Artist HH 81

We believe this set of bowls were made by Barbara Nahler. It is difficult to decipher the exact markings except that they are all signed in the same fashion. The 81 is very distinct. This coloring and style of glaze is so very close to Nahler's style and technique. All of the bowls were purchased at the Coach House Gallery.

We have many NAHLER fine studio art pottery pieces in our collection. Barbara Nahler was a well known Detroit designer. Her artwork was often shown at the Coach House Gallery.

This one of a kind handmade ceramic pottery was purchased from the Coach House Gallery that was on Van Dyke Place in Indian Village, Detroit, Michigan in the early 1970’s. Nona Herzog owned the gallery.

Nona was very active and involved with local artists as well as the Scarab Club downtown. The local artists were many….Johanna Haas, NAHLER, Bill Evans, Karen Carter, Mary Lark, Chars Herzog III to name a few. Her gallery also had artists from around the world come and display their art such as Vagh, Miele, and many more.

These bowls are one of a kind and are just spectacular.

The bowls range in size from approx. 4" tall to 3 1/2" tall. All of them have a 1/2 lip at the base. One has a slight notch around the rim. Please see the photos.

So unique in it's construction and how it was glazed. The bowls are beautifully glazed in deep cobalt blue with other shades of lighter, subtle blue. The ceramic on the outside is heavily glazed in a two tone gray, blue and brown. Glazed inside and outside. The very bottom is not glazed on five of them. One is glazed on the bottom. All are marked on the bottom.

This is an exquisite set of six bowls done in such an eclectic style. Perfect for serving fruit, or just about anything you can think of. Lovely as a pieces of art just for display.
