This beautiful tablecloth and napkins, handmade and hand stitched is from our large collection of vintage linens. We brought this set home from Italy in 1964. The original label is still on the tablecloth. It has never been used nor the matching napkins.
I have reached out to many fine linen groups if reference to this style of hand stitching. The consensus is an Assisi, Italian made of file lace and linen. Apparently a very old technique. Considered an ancient tradition.
Another comment from a textile group was "disheveled fabric and embroidery with fillet stitches, strands or Turkish lace; the edge looks finished with crochet low stitch".
Another comment: In Pakistan this kind of embroidery is called TaarKashi.
One more comment: In Russia, "snowflake" embroidery on cut linen fabrics is called "Cross line". Factories appeared in Vologda more than 150 years ago.
The condition is excellent.
The tablecloth and napkins are truly spectacular. A fantastic piece of fine textile work.
