Vtg Maxi Dress Kaftan Mayan Warrior Handmade Embroidery Mexico Green Cotton Twine Size L Hand Dyed
This one of a kind piece was purchased by us in Tlaquepaque, Mexico in 1973.
It is an incredible piece of textile art.
Hand embroidered Mayan figure is in the center of the dress with green twine, braided "hair" draped above his head. The braid is 4" wide and the twine is approx. 16" to 17" long. The figure is 6 1/2" x 7". He is done in fabulous colors.
At the shoulders, there are three tucks in the broadcloth fabric.
All handmade. At the base of the sleeves there is beautiful blue, red and yellow stitching.
At the base of the dress there are seven rows of remarkable weaving/embroidery in blue, red, orange, yellow, red and blue. Each row of color has a different technique.
This maxi dress is considered museum quality. Truly could be hung as a piece of fine art.
