This gorgeous pair of dolls were purchased on our trip to Morocco, Portugal and Spain in 1965.
The male is dressed in the Berber folk costume of Northern Africa, Morocco. So much detail and in excellent condition. He is & 1/2".
FATIMA has her own hang tag: MODELE LATIFA DEPOSE (wording underneath in Arabic) PASSPORT
On the front of the small booklet is a real stamp MODELE LATIFA DEPOSE on the red background.
On the back of the passport: Habillee a la main en Afrique du Nord HAND MADE IN NORTH AFRICA
7 Pages written in 5 languages, French, Spanish, Arabic, English, and German:
FATIMA is the daughter of a prince or Emir living in the south, in Marrakech. Her richly embroidered clothes consist of a "serual" and a "kaftan". She wears a very light veil, called a "mendil" over her face, and magnificent gold earrings. Her hair tied at the back, is dyed with henna. On her feet she has finely embroidered babooshes.
The passport is attached to the doll with a red string and the booklet is hung from the red string.
She is 8".
This doll is just exceptional.
